Food Futures Toolkit

This section is intended to act as a ‘tool kit’ to support individuals and organisations who are involved in local food.

From here you can read a selection of short local project case studies, about growing food in the city, and developing local markets and distribution networks for healthy local produce.

In addition, you can obtain information about how to grow food in a community garden, and run community ‘cook and taste’ sessions.

Online Food Resource Pack

The Health Inequalities Pool, which is part of the Community Network For Manchester, have recently developed a Food Resource Pack. This is designed to act as a ‘tool kit’, to support individuals and organisations to engage in Food Futures, or who are involved in setting up their own community food projects.

The Resource Pack is available online from the Manchester Alliance for Community Care website.

The tool kit contains a large selection of downloadable information papers, covering a variety of issues, including:

  • The Food Futures Strategy
  • The broader strategic context within Manchester
  • Food mapping in the City
  • The Global context – climate change, continuing population growth, and the end of cheap oil
  • A model for a healthy local food system
  • Allotments and community gardens
  • Fairtrade
  • Food, children and families
  • Food and older people
  • Permaculture – practical solutions for sustainable living
  • Getting support for your food project
  • Funding your project
  • A selection of case studies, from Manchester and the northwest
  • A Resource Directory
